Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a rare disease that causes damage to the respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems. Its incidence varies across the globe. In the USA, CF affects one in every 3500 newborns, and in Europe it’s one in every 2000–3000. Does the low number of patients with CF worldwide discourage scientists from finding a cure?
